Roddy McDowall was an English-American actor, producer, and director. He was best known for his roles in the films Lassie Come Home, How Green Was My Valley, and Planet of the Apes. He was also a prolific voice actor, appearing in many animated films and television series. McDowall was born in Herne Hill, London, England, on September 17, 1928.

He was 70. McDowall died at his home in the Studio City neighborhood of Los Angeles, said Dennis Osborne, a friend who had cared for the actor.
