Dec 28, 1998 · The fourth personage is “Michael,” the archangel ( Jude 9 ). In heaven, Michael and his angels will fight with Satan and his demons toward the end of the Tribulation period. Michael is a principal figure of the book of Daniel (10:12-21; 12:1). He was the guardian angel of Israel.
As Michael fought before with Satan about the body of the mediator of the old covenant (Jude 9), so now the mediator of the new covenant, by offering His sinless body in sacrifice, arms Michael with power to renew and finish the conflict by a complete victory.
The commentary proper adapts the typical Anchor Bible format with four elements: (1) the author’s own translation, (2) “notes” on one or more key phrases in each verse, (3) a select bibliography, and (4) “comments” that lucidly synthesize the passage’s message. Koester moves through the book in forty-three sections.
