   • From 1820 Burslem was supplied with water from John Smith's newly established water-works at Hanley, (fn. 79) and between 1832 and 1836 W. Walsh built a reservoir at the High Lane end of Sneyd hamlet, bringing water from John Bennett's land at Jackfield and running pipes down to the town nearly a mile away.
