  4. Recently scored a tascam 488 in decent condition in Japan. It was able to rewind and ffd, I didn't have a type 2 cassette to test playback at the time. When turned on it would make a constant buzzing noise even though nothing was playing, I assumed it was just a grounding issue.

  5. Jun 21, 2024 · DAT tapes are problematic and basically you will only get a proper audio playback if everything is right, down to fine tolerances. It's possible the tape has already been damaged due to tape binder issues or a problem with the machine.
