Phil Lesh & Friends at Temple University, November 1999- Okay this one's a deep cut. Phil took Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes on tour in the fall of '99 and I swear it's some of the most beautiful communication between musicians you'll ever hear outside of classic Grateful Dead or John Coltrane. That intro jam will take you somewhere special.
Sep 26, 2021 · I started getting into Derek Trucks after seeing him play with the Allman Brothers in 2005. I suggest starting with the Derek Trucks Band albums. They date back to 1998. One is a live album from the Georgia Theatre. They're freaking amazing. Quite a bit different from what the Tedeschi Trucks Band plays now.
Sep 22, 2012 · His Derek Trucks Band material is full of his jazz and world music influences, and he approaches things from a totally different angle then Duane (or most guitarists for that matter). I'd say if he had to be compared to anyone, Santana comes to mind more then Duane.
My first concert was Allman Bros with Derek Trucks, Jimmy Herring and Warren Haynes. Derek was particularly spellbinding. They played Franklin’s Tower. Hot Tuna opened. Hard to beat but Phil Lesh Quintet managed to a couple months later :)

May 26, 2023 · I remain perpetually in awe of Derek Trucks. He is a Charlie Parker-level change agent. We all know the story: Derek's uncle, Butch, was with ABB and Derek's parents christened him in honor of the Derek and the Dominoes project by Clapton (which, itself, has an odd story regarding the name of the band).
Trucks with the Allmans is one of the headiest things of all time. TTB is too un-psychedelic to really turn me on. Jamming on Liz Reed for an hour with a 12 minute guitar solo is what Trucks should be doing right now (Wanee 2011 - Liz Reed was literally an hour long - best live guitar solo and one of the top 3 shows I've ever seen).
