Apr 11, 2012 · The Blob is one where I found it to be the exact opposite: it looks far better than I remember. Despite this release only being single-layer (though since the film is only 82-minutes maybe a second layer wasn’t entirely necessary) it looks great upscaled, making me believe a Blu-ray edition could be amazing if Criterion ever decided to go that route with the film.
Jul 22, 2014 · Lola’s transfer was an overly digitized blob of a presentation that wasn’t much better than most mediocre DVD transfers. Since that was the first disc in the set it didn’t speak well for the set as a whole but thankfully neither Bay of Angels nor any of the other films suffer this same fate, as it appears different groups were responsible for restoring and transferring each film.
The transfer was quite bad, presenting a yellowish/greenish, damaged, interlaced blob of an image (find our screen grabs for the original release here, and find direct comparisons between the new and old Criterion releases at DVD Beaver,) lacked special features, and contained shoddy audio.
