Jun 26, 2024 · Sleepy Hollow got its name from the Dutch colonist, Adriaen Van der Donck, who referred to the Pocantico River as Slapershaven or Sleepers’ Haven in 1655. The name Sleepy Hollow is an Anglicized version of this and was later applied to the valley of the Pocantico River.
