Safety Dunce is an instrumental metal and hard rock solo album released by former Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Jason Hook in 2007. The album title is an obvious play on words of the song "The Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats. Safety Dunce won a 2007 L.A. Music Award for Best Instrumental Record. [1]

That’s kinda how I got the hired gun gigs but what I realized it wasn’t making me happy. It certainly was a great experience to travel the world and experiencing all these things for the first time: television shows and international continent jumping. I wasn’t fulfilled and I wasn’t satisfied.
My heart lies in songwriting. Period. I did my solo record Safety Dunce and I was like, “I want to be creative so bad and release records so bad. I need to get out of this and find a band that has a record deal and apply my skills, knowledge and passion to that instead of just being a touring rental guitar player.”
That’s one of the reasons why we quit drinking too. What happens over a couple months tour is the hangovers start to show up in your performance and I couldn’t have that. I had to kick that. It’s very difficult to sit on a stool and play acoustic guitar in front of 20,000 people when you’re hung-over.
