The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) was established after the merger of the Department of Trade and Industry and the Economic Development Department.

The Department continues to contribute to strengthening South Africa’s trade and investment relations with key developed countries. The Trade, Development and Cooperation Agreement (TDCA) with the EU has contributed positively to bilateral economic relations, supported by the 2007 deal on autos.
