Mary Hopkin (born 3 May 1950), credited on some recordings as Mary Visconti from her marriage to Tony Visconti, is a Welsh singer best known for her 1968 UK number 1 single "Those Were the Days". She was one of the first artists to be signed to the Beatles ' Apple label.

Mary Hopkin first came to prominence when she appeared on the UK TV talent show "Opportunity Knocks". She was spotted by Twiggy, who recommended her to Paul McCartney, and so she became one of the first artists to be signed to the Apple label.
Paul McCartney heard it at a London club called The Blue Angel, where he saw Raskin and his wife perform it. He sent to America to get a demo of the song and had Mary Hopkin, a singer from Wales, record it after she signed to the Beatles' label, Apple Records.
