    A Wrinkle in Time (Novel)

Charles Wallace is often considered a freak by his peers because he rarely ever speaks and most people think he never learned to talk at all as a result. In reality, Charles hadn't learned to talk until he was four but immediately began speaking in complete sentences. Boys in Meg's grade frequently call him her "dumb baby brother". Charles Wallace has an uncanny way of knowing when Meg is awake or upset. Along with this, he shows some other supernatural telepathic powers. In Chapter One, it is revealed to Meg that both she and Charles Wallace had received a number of IQ tests from their parents; more so than the twins. Alex reassures Meg that their IQs are "more than okay". It is also stated in Chapter One that when Charles first started talking, he did not use any basic terms most babies use, but started speaking in full sentences. He also appears to be extremely mature for his age, and it is said that he has the uncommon ability (for a child his age) to sit still.
