  2. Francesco Milizia was born at Oria in the province of Otranto, a part of the Kingdom of Naples, in 1725. His parents were noble and in comfortable circumstances. At the age of nine he was placed in charge of an uncle, his mother's brother, who was a physician in Padua, but at sixteen he ran away to Rome where he joined his father.
