Newton Mansfield, who was a first violinist in the New York Philharmonic, escaped from Poland with his parents when he was a youngster. “My father was a Jewish refugee who fled The Holocaust,” said David Mansfield. “He and my grandparents lived in France during the war years.
David Mansfield - Award-winning film composer and musician, has written scores in a multitude of styles for multiple film and television directors. In addition to composing, David is an avid working musician, both on stage and in the studio.
Mansfield composed the music for the 1980 film Heaven';s Gate — he appeared in the movie, playing the fiddle on roller skates — and has since gone on to write scores for a number of other films, including others directed by Heaven's Gate's Michael Cimino.
David is an award-winning film and television composer with many major credits. His score for the A&E mini-series “Broken Trail”, co-written with Van Dyke Parks, was nominated for an Emmy. David’s first film score was for the notorious epic “Heaven’s Gate”.
