Founded in 1820, it originally only admitted boys, keeping them "until they went out into the world", however, as of 2023, it admits both boys and girls. It is one of the country's oldest preparatory schools.

Eagle House is Wellington College’s prep school, located on the South-Eastern corner of the Wellington estate. We are predominantly a day school but also have around 70 boarding beds for flexi, weekly and bi-weekly boarders.
Eagle House celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2020, making it one of the oldest Prep Schools in the country. At the time of its foundation by Joseph Railton in 1820, Eagle House kept boys “until they went into the world”.
