It is the story of a deaf girl, Belinda McDonald, who is befriended by the new doctor, Dr. Robert Richardson, who comes to the area of Cape Breton Island in far eastern Canada, at the end of the nineteenth century.
A drama film noir based on a play by Elmer Harris, starring Jane Wyman as a deaf farm girl and Lew Ayres as a small-town doctor. The film explores the challenges and joys of communication and love across the language barrier.
