Whip It is a 2009 American sports comedy drama film co-produced and directed by Drew Barrymore from a screenplay by Shauna Cross, based on her 2007 novel Derby Girl. It stars Elliot Page as a teenage girl from the fictional town of Bodeen, Texas, who joins a roller derby team.

Sep 30, 2009 · She's being coached by her smothering mother ( Marcia Gay Harden) to compete in a Miss Bluebonnet beauty pageant that squeezes Texas girls into a ghastly caricature of Southern womanhood. Bliss despises it. One day she sees an ad for the Roller Derby in Austin, the nearest town of consequence, and with a friend, sneaks off to see a game.
