The Kingston Trio is an American folk and pop music group that helped launch the folk revival of the late 1950s to the late 1960s. The group started as a San Francisco Bay Area nightclub act with an original lineup of Dave Guard, Bob Shane, and Nick Reynolds.

- Tom Dooley. In 1959, the Kingston Trio won their first Grammy Award, thanks to “Tom Dooley” earning the Best Country and Western Recording. Since its original release, there have been a number of redone recordings and remixes.
- The Tijuana Jail. In 1959, “The Tijuana Jail” peaked at number twelve on the US Billboard Hot 100. Its melodic performance was loosely based on the old prison song, Midnight Special, which has its printed origin dated as far back as 1905.
