Paul David Hewson (born 10 May 1960), known by the nickname Bono (/ ˈ b ɒ n oʊ / BON-oh), is an Irish singer-songwriter and activist. He is the lead vocalist and primary lyricist of the rock band U2.
Bono, lead singer for the popular Irish rock band U2 and prominent human rights activist. U2 had number-one albums in four consecutive decades, of which its biggest-selling one was Joshua Tree (1987). Bono later committed himself to a second career as a global politician without portfolio.
