I am on sabbatical in the 2023-2024 academic year, working on a book. I will resume teaching and office hours in Fall 2024.
Benedict William Read FSA (26 March 1945 – 20 October 2016) was an English art historian. Usually known as Ben Read, he was the author of numerous books, essays and articles on nineteenth and twentieth century art history, and was one of the most authoritative writers in the second half of the twentieth century on British Victorian sculpture.
Research. My research centers on local and grassroots politics in East Asia, mainly China and Taiwan. The process of trying to learn about these things has also stimulated me to write about field research and comparative methods. Below is an overview of my work, organized by topic.
