Bernhard III (German: Bernhard Friedrich Wilhelm Albrecht Georg; 1 April 1851 – 16 January 1928), was the last reigning duke of Saxe-Meiningen.
Bernhard III, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen, the last reigning Duke of Saxe-Meiningen, a scholar, and a Field Marshal in the Prussian army, was the husband of Queen Victoria’s granddaughter Princess Charlotte of Prussia. He was born on April 1, 1851, in Meiningen, the capital of the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen, now in Thuringia, Germany.
Princess Charlotte of Prussia (German: Victoria Elisabeth Augusta Charlotte Prinzessin von Preußen; 24 July 1860 – 1 October 1919) was Duchess of Saxe-Meiningen from 1914 to 1918 as the wife of Bernhard III, the duchy's last ruler.
He was the last reigning Duke of Saxe Meiningen and the eldest son of Georg II and his first wife Princess Charlotte Frederica of Prussia. He had one full sister, Princess Marie Elisabeth and several half-brothers by his father's second marriage.
