Yonatan “Yoni” Netanyahu was a commander of the elite Israeli army commando unit Sayeret Matkal. He was famously killed in action during Operation Entebbe in Uganda. Netanyahu was born on March 13, 1946, in New York City to parents Benzion and Cela who had moved to the States to work for the New Zionist Organization.
Throughout the course of his exceptional military career, which culminated tragically in his last battle against terrorists at Entebbe, Jonathan Netanyahu, known to friends and family as "Yoni," became one of modern Israel's greatest heroes.
After joining the army, Yonatan’s sensation of grandiosity largely shifted to center his identity as an IDF soldier. Yonatan idolized the IDF, in which he was a proud commander of elite commando unit, Sayeret Matkal, and a decorated soldier (awarded Israel’s Medal of Distinguished Service).
