Houghton-le-Spring ( / ˈhoʊtən li ˈsprɪŋ / HOH-tən-lee-SPRING) is a town in the City of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, North East England which has its recorded origins in Norman times. Historically in County Durham, it is now administered as part of the Tyne and Wear county.

Houghton-le-Spring is home to the ancient church of St Michael’s and All Angels. Excavations in 2008 revealed a Saxon doorway and walls, but even half of the current standing structure was in place by the end of the 1300s.
