The castle (like many places in Scotland) has ghostlore associated with it. A story is told that in 1920 during renovation work the skeleton of a woman was discovered behind a bedroom wall. On the day the remains were laid to rest in Fyvie cemetery, the castle residents started to be plagued by strange noises and unexplained happenings.
Castle Grant is allegedly haunted by the ghost of Lady Barbara Grant, daughter of a sixteenth century laird. However her small apparition is said to be sad rather than terrifying. [1] She is said to have died of a broken heart after being imprisoned in a dark closet for falling in love with the wrong man.
