Lieutenant-General Guy Granville Simonds, CC, CB, CBE, DSO, CD (April 23, 1903 – May 15, 1974) was a senior Canadian Army officer who served with distinction during World War II.
Jan 29, 2008 · Guy Granville Simonds, army officer (b at Bury St Edmunds, Eng 23 Apr 1903; d at Toronto 15 May 1974). Much favoured by Field Marshal Montgomery for his ruthlessness and offensive spirit, Simonds commanded the 1st Canadian Infantry Div and 5th Canadian Armoured Div in Italy before taking over the 2nd Canadian Corps in NW Europe in 1944.
From Sept. to Nov. 1944, as acting Commander, 1 st Canadian Army, Simonds led the critical battles to clear the Scheldt estuary, following which he returned to his command of the II Canadian Corps. Simonds is credited with inventing the Allied version of the Armoured Personnel Carrier in 1944.

Lieutenant General Guy Granville Simonds was a Canadian Army officer who commanded the 2nd Army Corps (Canada) during World War II. He was also temporary commander of the Canadian First Army, due to the illness of Lieutenant General Harry Crerar, during the Battle of the Scheldt in 1944.
