This Movie is fairly distinguished from other ones by it's quiet way to tell it's story. The film looks for an answer for the reasons of suicide of the most famous Japanese tea master Sen-no-Rikyu in the late 16th century. The story bases on a book by Mr Inoue, called "Honkakubo Ibun".
The movie itself has a gloomy atmosphere, and by modern standards it can be felt as slow paced. Death is common in this story. Rikyū holds a tea ceremony for soldiers before a battle so that they get ready for the high probability of dying, for example. Besides that, his two disciples: Yamanoue Sōji and Furuta Oribe also commit ritual suicide.
