The Henrys is a Toronto-based ‘nearly-instrumental’ group that performs as a quartet, or quintet, but records with a larger stable of players. Led by Don Rooke, since 1990, the band’s goal has always been to compose, record and perform original music that has no obvious genre, but draws on a variety of styles in an original, identifiable way.

The Henrys came together in 1990, starting as the duo of Rooke and Pasmore. They released their first album, Puerto Angel, in 1996.The band has played concerts around the world, including the Sweetwaters Music Festival in New Zealand, the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands, South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, Toronto's Harbourfront Centre and many others.
Rooke music that sounds like pop, but otherwise has all the characteristics of futuristic jazz, avant-garde or experimental film. The remarkable thing about the music of Rooke and his friends is that the music still remains accessible sound, and experiments that never lead to endless gepriegel or display of virtuoso pretensions.
