A valid drone pilot certificate is a printed or electronic document issued by Transport Canada. No other form of certification will be accepted. There are two types of pilot certificates, basic and advanced. The type of licence you need depends on how you want to fly.
Take a drone pilot online exam: Overview. Fee: $10. All pilots of drones or “Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS)” with a maximum takeoff weight of 250 g up to and including 25 kg must pass an online exam.
You need a drone pilot licence to fly drones that weigh 250 grams (g) up to and including 25 kilograms (kg). You need to be 14 years old to get a basic licence and 16 years old to get an advanced licence.
The Small Basic Exam: 35 multiple choice questions. 90 minutes to complete the exam. If you run out of time, your exam will be marked based on the answers provided (see accommodations notice below). A score of 65% or higher is considered a pass.
