Owned by Les Behrens and Lisa Drinkward, who’ve made wine under the Behrens & Hitchcock label since 1993, Behrens Family Winery produces small lots of six or seven wines a year at its winery perched high on top of Spring Mountain in Napa Valley.
We rented a winery east of Napa where the winery grew even larger to 3,500 cases, but something was still missing. What we really wanted was a winery of our own. After looking at every winery, shack and vacant acreage available in the Napa Valley, we finally found our home on top of Spring Mountain.

A mutual enthusiasm for wine developed, resulting in the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for their eclectic wine list. This passion and the encouragement from friend and mentor Ed Oliviera prompted Les and Lisa to purchase their first 3 and a half tons of grapes in 1993.

The winery General Manager since 2004, she now runs the show at Behrens Family Winery and also has her own winery, Relic Wine Cellars. Robin Cooper worked for us first in 2003 as our harvest intern, and after that life-changing experience decided to relocate from New York to St. Helena.
Behrens Family Winery produces red wines exclusively, focusing on Cabernet Sauvignon and a variety of blends. A number of their labels are based on specific pieces of art – usually paintings. Total production as of the time of our latest update is about 4,500 cases per year.
