Sep 15, 2014 · No one was ever arrested in Plett’s death but it is believed James Cooper was most likely the killer. The Plett family’s misery didn’t end with Mary Ann’s death. Her husband Jake became deeply religious after the slaying and wrote a best-selling book about his experiences called Valley of Shadows.
There was speculation by the media and police that Mary Ann Plett was a victim of a serial killer responsible for the deaths of seven hitchhikers. There were stories about a mentally deranged man being interviewed as a suspect.
