Sep 20, 2012 · Melfort is the service centre of one of Saskatchewan's richest agricultural areas, the Carrot River valley, a territory that has never known drought or severe crop failure. The rail line, which arrived in 1909, made Melfort a trade and cultural centre for the surrounding area.
