Dik Trom lived in the village of Hoofddorp in the Harlemmermeer in the north of Holland. This is the village where the author grew up, so he was setting the stories in his own village, and based a lot of the characters on real people he had known. Dik’s real name was “Dirk”. This is a common Dutch name.
Dik Trom is a series of Dutch children's books by Cornelis Johannes Kieviet, centered on the character Dik Trom (a mischievous oversized Dutch boy). The series is well regarded as a classic in its home country.
The story of Dik Trom. Like the writer Johan Kieviet, Dik Trom lives in Hoofddorp, Haarlemmermeer. Kieviet was born in 1858 in Hoofddorp. His father was a carpenter and came to live in Hoofddorp shortly after the reclamation. He became a teacher, first in Vijfhuizen and then in Lisse.
