Less intrepid visitors can enjoy vistas of the Pitons from nearly any point in Soufrière or head across the island to the Castries re...

St. Lucia's cuisine is incredible. Local favorite Orlando’sis a renowned Creole restaurant and bar in downtown Soufrière. Helmed by Chef Orlando Satchell, the menu consists of local flavors and ingredients with dishes like green banana soup, mahi-mahi, coconut jerk lobster, yellowfin tuna, and Creole bread. Head here again and again (and again) to ...

Halfway between downtown and Sulphur Springs, you'll find Zaka Art Café, where Simon Gajadhar (a.k.a. Zaka) sells kaleidoscopic wooden masks and totems made from recycled telephone poles. Pick up a few — it's impossible to choose just one — plus a pound of his homegrown coffee.

An excellent place to stay is Ladera, which has 37 three-walled suites — some with their own plunge pools — that are open to sea and sky. The on-property bar is the perfect place to sip a Dasheen Fantasy (pineapple, rum, dark orange) as you watch the dramatic sunset over the Caribbean, perfectly framed by — you guessed it — those majestic Pitons.

Soufriere's backdrop of the Pitons, sea and rainforest provides a picture perfect setting for a visit to this laid-back and relatively undeveloped town in the south of St. Lucia. Considering that its name is French for "sulphur," it should be no surprise to discover the wealth of hot springs and mineral baths.
