York County was created on 16 June 1792 [1] and was part of the jurisdiction of the Home District of Upper Canada. It originally comprised all of what is now the City of Toronto, the regional municipalities of Halton, Peel, and York as well as portions of the Regional Municipality of Durham, and the City of Hamilton.
-York County was divided in 1852 creating Peel County to the west and Ontario County to the east. -Canada West became the Province of Ontario in 1867. -In 1873 Richmond Hill was incorporated as a town.

From York County to York Region On July 1, 1867, the passing of the British North American Act signalled the creation of Canada as a nation and unified the Province of Canada (Ontario and Quebec), Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
