"Mario of the Apes" is the forty-second animated episode of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. It is paired with the live-action segment "Chippie Chipmunks."

Mario, Luigi), Princess Toadstool and Toad arrive in Jungle Land. In spite of Mario not being at all afraid of the place, Toad and Luigi are worried about the inhabitants. As Toad discusses it, King Koopa shows up and sends an Albatoss after his enemies. Mario shoves the group to safety and resolves to defeat the bird himself. Unfortunately, the Albatoss manages to capture Mario, allows King Koopa jumps onto its back, and flies off. Mario is hardly defeated, however, and sticks a plunger into the Albatoss' face blinding it.

Meanwhile, an ape couple, Ward and June, are talking about their expected child. They hear the Albatoss outside and mistake it for the stork. After a lot of erratic flying, the Albatoss drops Mario onto the Ape's tree house. Mario hits his head and contracts amnesia. The Apes name him Marzan and teach him about being an ape. Marzan is allowed to go out and meets some new friends. A lion attacks, but Mario manages to beat it and declares himself the King of the Jungle.

Elsewhere, Luigi, Toad and the Princess continue their search for Mario but only end up finding King Koopa who has his Shy Guys attack with spears. They manage to evade the spears but fall into the river, which is infested with Trouters. It looks like the trio will be eaten, but Marzan swings in and saves them. They recognize him as Mario but he denies it saying he is Marzan and leaves. King Koopa is confused as to why Mario is acting the way he is but is more concerned that Mario has declared himself the King of the Jungle, a title that King Koopa had already laid claim.

Mario's companions follow a trail of banana peels and find him home. They climb the tree and introduce themselves to his "parents." Luigi shows Mario his first monkey wrench, but it doesn't work. Feeling that they need to take more drastic measures, Luigi gets out a meatball sandwich. Before he can give it to Marzan, however, King Koopa and his Shy Guys start hacking at the tree with axes. Marzan sets out to defeat them and gets rid of the Shy Guys but King Koopa starts up. Marzan distracts him for a while, but he doesn't succeed in getting rid of him. Luigi drops the meatball sandwich onto Mario's head and it restores his memory. Thinking that Mario is now an easy target, King Koopa gets out a Cobrat and attempts to shoot Mario, but the meatball sandwich is dropped into the Cobrat's mouth. The Cobrat clogs and backfires sending King Koopa away. Mario sees the sandwich is flying and quickly does some monkey-like acrobatics to "save" the sandwich.
