- Academy for Performing Arts School of Film and Television. One of the first official film schools in Hong Kong, the academy has helped to launch the careers of the second new wave of Hong Kong cinema in recent years, including Jevons Au, who co-directed back-to-back award winners Ten Years and Trivisa, as well as Roy Chow, who apprenticed for Ang Lee before making his debut feature, Murderer, in 2009.

In 1986, the school was renamed “Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography” after the name of its founder, Sergei Gerasimov. In the west, film schools only appeared later; in the meantime, younger filmmakers found education by being apprentices in the various film production facilities in Europe and the United States.
