Joseph Albert Albertson (October 17, 1906 – January 20, 1993) was an American businessman; the founder of the Albertsons chain of grocery stores. [1] [2] Early life[edit] Born in Yukon, Oklahoma Territory, Albertson was one of four sons born to Rhoda and Earl Albertson. In 1909, before he was three, the family moved west to Caldwell, Idaho. [1]

Barbara "Bobbie" Jeanne Newman, the only child of J.A."Joe" and Kathryn Albertson, died Thursday, September 27, at her Boise home surrounded by family. She was 79. Born July 20, 1933, Bobbie spent her early childhood in Emmett, Idaho while her father Joe, founder of Albertson's grocery stores, managed the local Safeway store.
