Rachel P. Hays was the daughter of David Hays and his wife, Judith Peixotto. She was the wife of Cyrus Leopold Sulzberger. She was buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery on February 11, 1938.

In 1942 Sulzberger married Marina Tatiana Ladas, a Greek who was often his travel companion and ensured that they had an active and elegant social life in Paris. She died in 1976 and he died at their Paris home on September 20, 1993. [5]
Cyrus’s son was New York Times publisher Arthur Hays Sulzberger (1891 – 1968). Sulzberger’s wife, Iphigene Ochs Sulzberger, was the daughter of Adolph Simon Ochs (1858 – 1935) and Effie Wise, the daughter of Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise.
