John J. Strauss is an American producer and writer of film and television. He has written a variety of films across numerous genres - animation, drama, comedy and more. He is best known for writing There's Something About Mary (1998), The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003), and The Santa Clause 2 (2002).
Strauss was born into a Catholic family in St Ulrich near Vienna (now a part of Neubau), Austria, on 25 October 1825, to the composer Johann Strauss I and his first wife, Maria Anna Streim.

- Reforming the waltz. Joseph Lanner was one of the earliest Viennese composers to reform the waltz from a simple peasant dance to something that even high society could enjoy.
- Going solo. Lanner placed Johann Strauss I in command of a second smaller orchestra which he formed as a result of the success of the parent orchestra.
