May 31, 2018 · During the past 25 years, various student initiatives have proposed numerous candidates for a tangible mascot, symbol or nickname that could be a companion or alternative to "Big Green" when identifying Dartmouth athletic teams.
The Dartmouth College Big Green are the varsity and club athletic teams representing Dartmouth College, an American university located in Hanover, New Hampshire. Dartmouth's teams compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level as a member of the Ivy League conference, as well as in the ECAC Hockey conference.
Today’s more inclusive team identity is “The Big Green,” named for the College’s athletic uniforms on which green has been a primary color since the nineteenth century. Generations of students have competed as athletes on Dartmouth teams and cheered them on.
