1 Kings 6:1 states that the Exodus occurred 480 years before the fourth year of King Solomon’s reign. King Solomon was thought to begin his reign in 970 bc, making 966 bc the fourth year. 966 – 480 years = 1446 bc, which is the date used here (the so-called “Early date”).
