  1. Apr 26, 2023 · As a 4K UHD the set from Warner is ok, the native 4K image is clean, clear, well detailed, well coloured with good blacks and a decent enough filmic quality, while the Dolby Atmos track is engaging and enveloping if a little pedestrian. Sadly, there are no new extra features which remain all legacy.

    • Superman IV: The Quest for Peace was meant to be a return of the series to greatness from the disappointing Superman III, but as many people know, the budget was cut severely in pre-production by Cannon Films when it started to scale back it’s large-budget productions that had been put into the pipeline when they tried to leap from smaller independent films to blockbusters.
    • Rosenthal compares the opening credits to looking at graffiti compared to the awe-inspiring credits seen in the first two films.
    • One of the goals during the development of the film was to bring back the entire cast from the first film because they were so embarrassed by Superman III.
    • Before getting the green light, the filmmakers had to meet with then-president of DC Comics Jenette Kahn. They were all excited about exploring the age-old question of why Superman doesn’t stop wars with all of his powers.

  3. I'm going to be generous and give Superman IV: The Quest for Peace a 8 rating. My reasons are a few and quite unarguable really.... Firstly I didn't like Superman II much because it felt depressing even with the three villains fighting Superman it just didn't feel nice.

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace had so much going for it. Christopher Reeve was not only returning in the role that launched his acting career, he had contributed to the story and had final choice on director. The Salkinds were no longer involved, which helped convince Margot Kidder and Gene Hackman to return to the franchise. The team of Lawrence...

Warner’s 2160 HEVC-encoded transfer with HDR10 high dynamic range is fine, with very good detail, vivid colors, and excellent contrast allowing for deep blacks and strong shadow detail. The higher resolution, though, makes the very cheap visual effects stand out even more.

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace was released theatrically with a Dolby Stereo optical soundtrack, and previous DVD and Blu-ray releases only included a 2.0 stereo surround track. So having an Atmos track on this release is something of a surprise, but also a letdown. The benefits are a wider front soundstage and some discrete surround effects. Sou...

As with all other films in this set, nothing new has been included here, but Warner has once again included the commentary track on the UHD disc. Both Superman and Christopher Reeve deserved a much better farewell than Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.

  6. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is a good movie, but it was a failure in my opinion. It was great seeing the Superman cast back together again, including Gene Hackman who we haven't seen since Superman II. This time, Alexander and Ilya Salkind were not producing the movie.
