One of director Carlos Saura’s most potent allegories for the hypocrisy and repression that defined Francoist Spain follows Ana (Geraldine Chaplin), a young English woman who arrives at a remote Spanish estate in order to work as a governess for three girls.
Ana (Geraldine Chaplin) is the new foreign nanny for three girls of a troubled family in an isolated mansion in Spain. José (José María Prada) is an uncle who seems to maintain control of the household and trying to impose his will on Ana.
milchsaft’s review published on Letterboxd: "Ana and the Wolves" presents itself as a blatant reckoning of the Franco regime. In clear, almost crude metaphors, the patriarchal family structure and its dishonest morals, boastful militarism and misguided religiosity are exposed.
