When Kroenke Sports & Entertainment rebranded its esports division as The Guard, some may have glossed over the fact that the organization chose to enter the Valorant competitive scene.

In November 2021, KSE rebranded their esports division as "The Guard", fielding a roster in the first-person shooter game, VALORANT. On 22 February 2023, "The Guard" laid off all employees in their content, social, talent, and creative teams.
On November 5, 2021, KSE renamed KSE Esports to The Guard to unify their esports division under its banner. On June 17, 2022, The Guard announced their application to VALORANT's franchised league for 2023 by projecting their logo and the VALORANT logo on the roof of SoFi Stadium in Hollywood Park, which is owned by KSE.
KSE first invested in the esports scene by acquiring an Overwatch League franchise spot in 2017, the Los Angeles Gladiators, and later in 2019 by joining the Call of Duty League with the Los Angeles Guerrillas. The Guard looks to bring all three KSE esports teams under one brand. (Picture: KSE)
