Friedrich Robert Donat (/ ˈ d oʊ n æ t / DOH-nat; March 18, 1905 – June 9, 1958) was an English actor. He is best remembered for his roles in Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps (1935) and Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939), winning for the latter the Academy Award for Best Actor.
Robert Donat was a British actor who overcame a stammer and asthma to star in classic films such as The 39 Steps, Goodbye, Mr. Chips, and The Inn of the Sixth Happiness. He won an Oscar for his role in Goodbye, Mr. Chips and was nominated for another for The Count of Monte Cristo.
