Our review: Parents say: ( 1 ): Kids say: Not yet rated Rate movie. This is an engaging movie, despite the "teacher teaching in a rough school" clichés. The Substitute is an Argentinian movie in which Lucio begins work trying to convert kids from the rough neighborhood where he himself grew up to literature and poetry.

The pacing isn’t perfect and the ending feels a little overblown, but Minujín’s quietness paradoxically succeeds in keeping the focus where it needs to be, and makes this one of the more interesting entries in the subgenre. Jun 8, 2009 · Without a doubt the high point of the movie is the unhinged and charismatic portrayal of Ulla Harms by Paprika Steen. Steen is a veteran of the experimental Dogme 95 movement led by Lars Van Trier and in “The Substitute” she cuts loose in a performance that jolts from funny to menacing in a way that is pure joy to watch.
