East Chicago was one of the Northwest Indiana Region’s first industrial cities, created to meet the needs of its workers. East Chicago was once home to over 70 nationalities with heritage and tradition remaining a focal point of our great city.

- Jeorse Park Beach. Often overlooked in favor of beaches in neighboring communities, East Chicago has an attractive piece of lakefront with a sandy beach and an array of amenities around it.

- East Chicago Marina. At the north end of Jeorse Park Beach is an important marina for the region, opened in 1987 and accommodating boats up to 60 ft. This is the anchor for an entire district that has received a lot of investment in the last decade.

East Chicago, IN. Lake County, 19 miles SE of the Loop. East Chicago became a leading industrial center by capitalizing on the resources of its metropolitan namesake and its proximity to Lake Michigan and the Calumet River . Mills and factory jobs drew tens of thousands of migrants to the region in the 1910s and 1920s.
The City of East Chicago was incorporated in 1893, the same year as the great Columbian Exhibition on the south side of Chicago. Born of railroad and steel, East Chicago was one of northwest Indiana’s first truly industrial cities designed to meet the needs of workers and industry.
