Osnabrück (German pronunciation: [ɔsnaˈbʁʏk] ⓘ; Westphalian: Ossenbrügge; archaic Osnaburg) is a city in Lower Saxony in western Germany. It is situated on the river Hase in a valley penned between the Wiehen Hills and the northern tip of the Teutoburg Forest.
The name says it all: The negotiations for and signing of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 are the biggest events in the city's history, which still shape beautiful Osnabrück – otherwise known as the City of Peace – to this day.
