  6. Apr 6, 2021 · As others have mentioned, freakbeat is like garage rock or northern soul in that it was only coined as a genre after the fact. Very few artists consistently recorded in the style. Many, if not most of the best cuts were recorded by groups that never even released an album. Compilations like the aforementioned Maximum Freakbeat are the way to go.

Apr 6, 2021 · Freakbeat feels like the most vague genre description ever, but a few comps that might fit are-A Lethal Dose of Heavy Psych (and a couple related comps in the "series")-Beyond the Calico Wall-30 Seconds Before the Wall And then the Savage Resurrection is a band with a really good album, I think 1967. Less punk than the 66 bands but heavier than the 68/69 flower psych bands.
