Alonzo knew from the very beginning of the movie that Hoyt wasn't going to make it through his training day. Hoyt was disposable.

  7. Why would Smiley agree to kill Hoyt, a LAPD police officer? Smiley tells Hoyt during the card game that he doesn’t trust Alonzo and that he won’t even shake his hand. Smiley also knew that Alonzo robbed and killed Roger. Killing a police officer is going to draw all kinds of attention.

As far as the guys in Alonzo’s neighborhood, it wouldn’t shock me if word had already gotten around to them about Alonzo’s predicament with the Russians.
