Jan 4, 2024 · The Wicker Man was inspired by a 1676 engraving called "The Wicker Image" and aimed to be a more cerebral horror movie. The film was shot in 25 different locations throughout Scotland, with aerial shots of Summerisle filmed in South Africa.
Synopsis. Edward Malus (Nicolas Cage), a Seattle policeman, receives news from his ex-fiancée, Willow Woodward (Kate Beahan), that her daughter, Rowan (Erika Shaye Gair), is missing. He gets a pilot to take him to the island where they live. The island is led by Sister Summersisle (Ellen Burstyn), an elderly woman who is treated like a goddess.
